FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the most common questions, with links to the detailed dossiers.
Is the third pillar compulsory?
No, it is entirely voluntary. It complements the AVS/AHV (first pillar) and the pension fund (second pillar) to close the gap with the desired standard of living.
What is the difference between pillar 3a and pillar 3b?
3a is 'restricted': contributions deductible within legal limits, capital locked except for the reasons provided by law. 3b is 'flexible': broad availability, separate tax treatment.
When can pillar 3a be withdrawn?
In the window preceding the reference age, or earlier for a legal reason: home ownership, mortgage repayment, self-employment, definitive departure from Switzerland, transfer into a pension fund, full disability pension.
Why does this website publish no amounts?
Because ceilings and scales are set by federal law and the cantons and they change. We consistently refer to the official sources (admin.ch, bsv.admin.ch, ch.ch, cantonal administration).
Is this website a broker or a comparison service?
Neither: it is an information medium. If you request a callback, your request is forwarded to our FINMA partner broker, identified under every form.
Who receives the capital in the event of death?
The surviving spouse or registered partner comes first, followed by the categories provided by the ordinance. A written beneficiary clause, sent to the institution, allows adjustments within the legal framework.
